It's a Matter of Honor

April 5th 2011

Welcome to another edition of the J-Transfer everyone. I’m Jay Phillips and I was hoping to bring you an interview with NRWL wrestler, Mark Blood. The interview started well enough but things took an unexpected turn that every NRWL fan needs to read.

I met with Mark Blood at the NRWL Arena’s interview stage. I invite any fans to join us. We run interviews with an audience even when there isn’t an event scheduled. There was a decent turnout and the fans in attendance were receptive to the young star.

Jay Phillips: Mark Blood, it’s a real pleasure to speak with you today. I believe these fans here today feel the same way.

The fans gave Mark a good cheer and he smiled and waved.

Mark Blood: Thank you, Jay. It’s a pleasure for me as well. Thanks for having me.

JP: How do you feel about being in the NRWL? You’re father, NRWL Hall of Famer Mike Blood, spent a bit of time here during our early days. What is it like to perform on the same stage?

MB: It’s been pretty cool so far. Yeah, my father spent some time here to help get the ball rolling and then went on to manage John Fraust. I’m happy to have the opportunity to perform for the same company as them. I learned a lot from both of them.

JP: Really? You trained under John Fraust as well?

MB: A little, yeah.

JP: Very interesting. Does having this background put pressure on you to perform?

MB: Absolutely, Jay. Absolutely. The truth is that the talent this season is top notch. I really don’t think any NRWL roster has even been this consistent. It makes it that much harder to make a name for yourself. The only way is to push as hard as you possibly can and take every advantage. I absolutely intend to do that. I will be NRWL Champion.

JP: Most recently, you competed in a match against Slam Jackson and Bruno Kowalski. It was a fan favorite match. What are your thoughts on the match?

MB: Well Jay, these guys are both incredible talents. Slam is just a total package. A wealth of talent in the ring, a great persona. He’s really over with these fans. Bruno Kowalski is an incredible mat technician and can get mean when he needs to. I don’t think I’ve seen the last of either of them. It was an honor to have such an incredible match with them both.

At this point in the interview, I was going to ask him who he was going to meet in the ring next but someone else answered instead and things got heated. Johnny Young walked onto the stage and I had no idea what as going to happen next.

Johnny Young: Jay! What are you doing interviewing this guy. Maybe you should spend time with a winner. Like me.

MB: Hey! This is my time, Young. Shouldn’t you be waxing your car for the tenth time today?

JY: Shut your trap, Blood. You know, it’s really a shame to see you without a win in your column. I wrestled John Fraust and he wrestled like he was from another world, man. And your father? I was a HUGE Mike Blood fan growing up. There was no one better than him. I think I still have his action figure somewhere. So what happened to you?

MB: You know, Johnny. I might say the same about you. You walk around and talk about how great you are, about how you were the only previous NRWL star to get re-signed and what have you done? You lost the first round of the tournament and your greatest accomplishment this season is making people laugh at you because you thought Meinrad parked in your parking spot? Speaking of which, I didn’t even see your name on it.

JY: Watch your tongue. You didn’t get any further than I did in that tournament and whether or not that was Meinrad’s car, I still beat him in the ring. You know, your father didn’t have much of a career here but at least he went out on a high note. Unfortunately, I don’t know if you’ll even be employed as the season rolls on. You’re a waste.

At this point, I expected Mark Blood to issue a challenge to Johnny Young. I expected Johnny to accept it. What I did not expect was for Mark Blood to quickly grab Johnny’s wrist, pull him in and short arm clothesline him to the ground and deliver a flurry of punches. I stepped back from the carnage as security broke up the fight. The fans in the audience were cheering wildly. They couldn’t have anticipated some NRWL Action from the interview set. Mark Blood had some words for “The Star Player” as he was pulled off the interview stage.

MB: Young! You and me in the ring! At least then I can pummel you without interference! It’s going to be a pleasure putting you in your place!

Johnny Young, bleeding slightly from the forehead, got to his feet and bared his teeth. He growled at me that Mark Blood was, I quote, “a dead man”. Things really got out of hand but the fans loved it and they are going to love it even more at the next NRWL event when these two athletes meet one-on-one in the ring.
