Marty Speaks Out

*Marty Anderson's music starts playing in the NRWL Arena to a cheering crowd. Marty walks down the ring with a microphone in hand and slides under the bottom rope.*

Marty Anderson: Alright, well, there's a lot going on right now in the NRWL but it seems like everywhere I go, I keep getting asked the same thing. Backstage, I've got people asking me, 'Marty, what's going on with you and Slugger Malone'. I go to the grocery store and the person ringing up my items in the checkout line is asking me, 'Marty, what are you going to do to Slugger next time you see him'. Hell, I'm stopped at a traffic light and someone on the sidewalk yells, 'Hey Marty, I can't believe that Slugger screwed you over.' Yeah, neither can I. You know, in this business, you have a lot of acquaintances but not a whole lot of friends. When Slugger Malone and I first got put together in a tag team match, I didn't know him from Ash or Slam Jackson. I scouted the whole roster out but I didn't personally know anyone. Just before the match, we talked a little bit to get on the same page. I knew, even then, that Slugger Malone and I had a lot in common. We both wanted to go out there and just win. We both have a mean streak and I got this feeling that combined we would either be dominating or we'd self destruct. On that night, we dominated. We were the talk of the wrestling world the next day.

Over the next few months, we developed a working relationship. I helped him work on his mat skills, sure, but I gained a trusted partner in the process. I knew that no matter what the situation was, I couldn't ask for a better person to have my back. I thought we even became pretty good friends but it seems that somewhere along the line, Slugger started feeling some resentment about people calling him a student and me a teacher. I showed him some pointers but I never viewed us as a student/teacher combination. We were mutual partners in a successful tag team.

I don't know when it all started but when we had a match together at the Colors Tournament, I thought we were on the same page. We'd beat the hell out of each other to give you fans the best match possible. Slugger won that match and I thought that was that. Unfortunately, he decided it was a good time to let me know that he wanted to move on by himself. It would have been fine if he had just told me that but I didn't need to take a Beating. Hey Slugger, I may have a thick skull but I would have gotten the message just fine if you had told me!

No, I know better than that. I get it. Slugger, you wanted to make a bold statement. Well, you did it. I went out there for our rematch a few weeks ago and I won but it's obvious that it wasn't enough. The fans want more and you know what? I want more too!

*The crowd starts cheering. Marty keeps on talking.*

MA: Slugger, if you wanted out, you should have just told me. I didn't come into the business to make friends but I considered you one. I would have gotten out of your way and I would have helped you any way I could but you decided to go another way. That's fine with me but understand that you have to pay for the decision. Love me or hate me, everyone respects me, and Slugger, I'll pound that respect into you. When we meet in the ring again it'll be a last man standing match! Good luck.

*Marty waves to the crowd, drops his microphone, and walks backstage.*

Winds of Change

*A full NRWL Arena is on their feet waiting for a surprise announcement. In the ring, Jay Phillips stands in the ring with a microphone in hand. He smiles and waves to the crowd and then straightens his tie and begins to speak.*

Jay Phillips: NRWL fans, a few months ago, Johnny Young made a strong statement to everyone by viciously attacking fellow wrestler Storm Harrison. In the attack, Storm suffered several injuries, including  multiple leg injuries that has kept him from competing. The NRWL has kept fans updated on Storm's situation but he has asked to address you, the fans, live in person tonight! So without further delay, allow me to introduce NRWL star, Storm! Harrison!!!

*Storm's music begins to play and fans begin to cheer. After a few moments, Storm Harrison appears from behind the curtain and heads to the ring on crutches. He takes his time to shake hands with some fans on both sides of the aisle way. When he gets in the ring, he slides the crutches into the ring and hops up the steps on one leg. When he steps through the ropes, Jay hands him the crutches and Storm stands for a moment taking in the cheers from the crowd. He takes the microphone from Jay, who steps back into a corner of the ring to give Storm the spotlight.*

Storm Harrison: Umm.. Wow, I - *The crowd is continuing to cheer and Storm smiles and takes it in for a minute more, mouthing a "thank you" to the fans.* - Haha, well, it's certainly good to know that you still remember me. It's been a while, hasn't it? Too long, I think. Unfortunately, it hasn't been my choice. As Jay stated, I was attacked a few months ago by Johnny Young. In the attack, I was injured pretty badly. The majority of the damage was done to my knee, which required extensive surgery to repair. After these last few months, I've been healing and hoping to make a comeback, but, as you can see, it's been a slower process than I had hoped. I don't know when I'll be able to return, but rest assured, I intend to make a better impact than I did during the first part of my career here. You see, I kind of flew under the radar while some other guys with a little more flair and charisma stepped up and their careers have really taken off. I learned from that while watching from home. You know, I hope to be the NRWL Champion someday and so when I come back, you can expect a new, more exciting Storm Harrison than ever be --

*Mark Blood's music starts playing, interrupting Storm Harrison. Mark walks down the ring shaking his head and smirking as he walks down to the ring. He walks over to the announce table and grabs a microphone before sliding into the ring.*

Mark Blood: Storm Harrison. Well, it's good to see you back on your feet. Or at least, one of them. You know something, Storm? I've always liked you. You've always been one of the good ones. The purists. You come into this ring and you let your abilities speak for you. None of the stupid antics of the others in the back. I looked forward to you returning to the ring. But then I hear you talking about mimicking those in the back who are ruining this great sport? You've learned from watching them in the ring? Please. Don't listen to what these fans say they want. They don't know any better. The noble thing to do is not to fall into the bad habits of those that infect this company but instead show people that in-ring talent is what should make this business.

SH: Don't you think the fans should make their own decisions on what entertains them most?

*The crowd cheers and Mark Blood looks out into the crowd shaking his head and waves his hands at them to stop.*

MB: No! No no no no no!!! Don't you get it? They don't know what's right or wrong! They are all twisted up! They are confused. *Mark pauses and slowly lowers his brow, scowling at Storm.* And so are you.

*Mark kicks one of Storm's crutches out from under him, making Storm stumble back to the ropes and rests his back against it for balance. Mark gets in Storm's face and starts yelling at him. Jay Phillips tries to calm Mark down but is pushed out of the way. Suddenly, Bruno Kowalski's music begins and playing. Mark Blood turns around and looks down the aisle. Bruno starts running toward the ring. Mark kicks the bottom rope in frustration and quickly pulls off his collared shirt. When Bruno slides into the ring, both he and Mark start exchanging fists. Bruno gets the upper hand and throws Mark out of the ring. The crowd is cheering wildly. Bruno goes over to Storm and helps him get to the center of the ring where he stands on one crutch. Bruno raises Storm's free arm and the crowd starts cheering. Bruno lets go of Storm's arm and starts rallying the crowd for more cheers. When he turns back around toward Storm, Storm quickly jabs Bruno in the stomach with the top of the crutch and then whips it into Bruno's head. Storm starts kicking Bruno repeatedly. Mark Blood slides back into the ring and joins in on the attack. While Mark gets down on his knees and starts slugging Bruno with fists, Storm spins around with his arms outstretched, showing he is no longer injured.

As Mark Blood steps back from Bruno, Storm delivers a leg drop to Bruno. Mark picks up Bruno off the mat and drives him back down with a vicious Blood Rush. Storm Harrison picks Bruno up and looks ready to suplex him but suddenly stops and looks out at the crowd, who has begun to cheer loudly at one side of the arena. A spotlight shines out following a figure as it approaches the ring. The figure hops the ring barrier just as Bruno takes advantage of the distracted Storm and reverses the hold into a suplex of his own. The mysterious figure slides into the ring and quickly DDTs a stunned and confused Mark Blood. As the rest of the crowd starts to cheer, the figure stands up and looks around. For the long time fans, they recognize the black and blue haired person as former NRWL wrestler, Balance! Mark and Storm both roll out of the ring and meet each other at the aisle way. They look at Bruno Kowalski and Balance standing in the ring before quickly heading backstage. Bruno and Balance both look around the ring and then at each other. After a few seconds staring at each other, Bruno offers a handshake. Balance takes Bruno's hand, shakes it, and then raises it for the crowd. Both men speak with each other in the ring before heading out. Both men walk backstage together.*

Mounting Tension!

*scene opens backstage with Jay Phillips in the arena, a few hours before the matches start.*

Jay: Well, ladies and gentlemen. I’m a volatile spot, because right now I’m standing in between Scotty “The Body” Paris and Pedro Muchacho. Gentlemen, you are slated to face each other tonight. And this match stems back to the colors tournament—

Scotty: *interrupting* That’s right punk! This goes back to when this masked burrito here decided to viciously attack Trixie! An innocent bystander and a defenseless lady! What kind of man does that? I’ll tell you, what kind! A piece of crap kind!

Pedro: That ees an eensult, hombre!

Scotty: Yeah, no kidding!

Pedro: Thees ees not my fault, hombre! What was she doing so close to the reeng? We were chaving a match! She chuld’ve not gotteen so close to the reeng!

Scotty: Trixie, as my valet, has a right to be out there! She minds her own business and never once done anything wrong while at ringside!

Pedro: Ha! Lies! She has gotteen eenvolved plenty of times, chico! And she has gotteen eenvolved with Pedro Muchacho too! Ole!

Scotty: Hey! You shut your taco hole! Who do you think you’re talking to! I guarantee you will never landscape another yard in this state again!

Pedro: Eets all talk, hombre. But all that talk won’t get chore mujer back from me! Aye!

Scotty: Why you--!!1

*Scotty lunges at Pedro and the two lock up and begin exchanging blows before security teams break them apart. They yell at each other as the scene ends.*

View From The Top

*Jay Phillips is backstage at a dressing room door that is painted gold. He knocks and the door suddenly opens quickly and Slam Jackson is standing there with a large smile on his face.

Slam Jackson: Jason!!!!! So good to see you! What a surprise! What brings you by my dressing room?

Jay Phillips: Umm... We had a scheduled interview. Don't you remember?

*Slam stands and thinks for a moment and then nods his head.*

SJ: Yes, that's right. I completely forgot. It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks, Jason. Where do I begin? How about... Mark Blood. You know, here's a guy who I thought was a real stand up guy. He was intense and maybe a little too serious for my tastes, but hey, his heart was in the right place. I liked him. But then, he hit me with a bottle of bubbly! That, my interviewing friend, is alcohol abuse. More importantly, that's a shot at the entire Slamnation and they won't stand for it! Am I right?! Let me hear you!!!

*A deafening roar of cheers is heard in the dressing room behind the golden door. Jay tries to peek behind Slam.*

JP: Is... How? How many people do you have in there?

SJ: Jason, the Slamnation is millions strong and they've always got my back. But for now, we need to let Mark Blood go because there's something more important to deal with. My title defense tonight against Johnny Young! Now Johnny's been around a while and in a time long ago, he held a predecessor to the belt I now possess. It sounds like he's looking to recapture that magic. I'd love to help him, I really would  but now isn't the time. If he took his shot with a different champion, maybe he'd have a chance. He can't beat Slam Jackson, though. For the first time in NRWL, and in all of wrestling history, the championship is held by millions of people! One man can't stop the Slamnation!!!

*The deafening roar picks up again.*

SJ: Yeah!!! Now how can you beat that, Johnny Young?!? I'll see you in the ring tonight!

*Slam turns out and runs back into the dressing room. As the door is closing, you can hear cheering and Slam yelling to someone.*

SJ: Let's start the Jello wrestling!!!

*Jay stands there looking at the door.*

JP: Jello wrestling? How do I get invited to these parties?

A Great Challenge!

*Ash is in the backstage interview area with Jay Phillips*

Jay: I’m back here now with Ash. Ash, you’ve had several weeks to reflect on the Colors Tournament. What are your thoughts on it now?

Ash: Well Jay, obviously I’m disappointed by not winning the tournament and thus I won’t get my much deserved title shot next. It stinks, Jay. We started off strong with some big time wins by Marty Anderson and Abbadon, but after that things kind of fell apart. I’m not pointing fingers at anyone, but the turning point clearly was our first loss. It was just demoralizing to the rest of the team and it gave match control to Johnny Young. But, one person can’t be blamed because we win as a team and lose as a team and unfortunately, Mark Blood was on our team and lost. I suppose as team captain I bear a fraction of the burden for believing in him and also for overestimating his abilities--thinking he can get a victory over a seasoned veteran like Johnny Young. So, yes, I’m partially to blame, but I can’t wrestle *for* Mark, so we know that most of the load falls on his shoulders, which were flat to the mat for the 3 count, costing the team victory and glory. But, like I said, it was a team effort, and our team mate Mark lost if for us.

Jay: *furls his brow in puzzlement*

Ash: But I’m not here to harp on Mark Blood. He’s got his hands full right now picking fights with Polish people! I’m here for another reason. There’s a guy in our fed who’s made quite a splash and continues making all kinds of waves. And his name is Mikey Armstrong. I tell you what, I respect this kid. He came out of the woodwork and nobody gave him a chance. Not even you Jay, and you give everyone a chance! I hear a lot of people talking about him being an “upcoming superstar” or “having potential.” But what are these people waiting for? He’s here and he’s the real deal. I tell you what, I’m a fan!

Jay: Huh?

Ash: Yup, I’m a fan of Mikey Armstrong! Check it out, I bedazzled the back of my shirt!

*Ash turns around to show a poorly bedazzled “Miky” with a crude, round shape below the letters”

Jay: You spelled “Mikey” wrong.

Ash: Well, I didn’t have enough space because I cut off the sleeves, but it gets the point across.

Jay: Do you have a “Disco Stu” jacket, too?

Ash: *stone-faced* What are you implying?

Jay: Er.....what’s that underneath “Mikey?”

Ash: Oh! That’s....an arm flexing with a huge bicep. You know, it’s like a ‘strong arm.’ Ha ha! I thought it was clever. I’m getting great feedback on it!

Jay: Indeed. So, why are you challenging Mikey anyway?

Ash: Well, in my opinion, Mikey is the wrestling at another level right now. He’s on a hot streak. And as the saying goes, iron sharpens iron. So for me to improve, I need to wrestle someone who’s skill level is pretty close to mine. And not only is he undefeated in the NRWL, but he’s also battled back from cancer to win the Tour de France, founded Green Day, and walked on the moon!

Jay: Um...I don’t think all those people were him

Ash: Oh come on Jay! How many people can possibly have the last name “Armstrong?” But this is the match everyone wants to see! The undefeated streaker, Mikey! And the fans’ favorite NRWL wrestler, ME! It’ll be great! Mikey, you bring your A game, because “A” stands for “Ash!” And stands for all the “fAns!” Because you can’t spell “fans” without “Ash!”
Jay: There’s no “H” in “fans.”

Ash: It’s right after the “F” and it’s silent. But this isn’t about being silent! This about making some noise! And that’s what Mikey, myself, and all the fans are going to do this Friday night! Yeah!

*Ash walks off camera fist-pumping and hollering excitedly*

Jay: Words from a very animated Ash. Will Mikey respond?
