NRWL Spotlight - The Fall of Rex Anarchy

Last week, the NRWL parted ways with Rex Anarchy, a wrestler who burst onto the scene earlier this year by winning the NRWL Championship on his first night. Since that night, Rex started on a downward spiral that came to an end at the recent Team Colors Tournament. Most fans didn't know it but that was the last time they would see Rex Anarchy in the NRWL ring. What happened to Rex Anarchy? How could such a talented wrestler burn out so quickly?

Rex Anarchy joined the NRWL as a last minute addition to the roster for the fourth season. Like most of the other wrestlers, Rex was a newcomer to the scene. The NRWL decided that they would reboot their product by bringing in new faces and creating all new stars. Shortly before the tournament to crown the new NRWL Champion was to take place, Rex found himself a spot on the card. According to Jay Phillips, Mr. Sunderland was very high on Rex Anarchy.
When we were just about ready to start season four, Rex Anarchy stepped into the NRWL and it just took a lot of us by surprise. The roster was basically all filled up at that point and then out of nowhere he steps into the arena. The truth is that Mr. Sunderland was a bit shaky about one of the other wrestlers on the roster but it was so close to launch that he didn't think he had much of a choice but leave things the way they were. As luck would have it, Rex Anarchy came to him and inquired about coming in. Mr. Sunderland gave him a tryout and was impressed by his skills in the ring. He liked Rex personally as well. It seemed like a great fit and a solution for Mr. Sunderland's roster concerns. He signed Rex immediately.
Rex would go on to win the NRWL Championship in that tournament and secure his place as the top star of the company. At least, that's how it was supposed to be. Over the next few months, other wrestlers on the roster started to make a name for themselves with intense matches and personalities that attracted fans. Wrestlers like Ash, Slam Jackson, Scotty Paris, the Sons of Darkness, and Marty Anderson quickly became top draws for the NRWL. While Rex Anarchy was standing on top of the mountain, everyone was paying attention to what was going on in the valley below him. Storm Harrison recalls Rex's early days as champion.
We were all finding our footing in those first two or three months. Some guys found their niche rather quickly and some of us didn't. Rex was one of the guys who didn't. I remember he was frustrated. He had some real concerns with society and corporate structure and felt that the NRWL would be a great place to vent. It definitely can be. Mr. Charles and Mr. Sunderland let us do whatever we want but it is up to us to make a name for ourselves and get over with the fans. Some guys came right out the gate with a purpose. Rex had an idea of what he wanted to do but I don't think he knew how to handle it given his situation as champion. In my opinion, Rex Anarchy would've been one of the most popular guys here if he didn't win the NRWL Championship. His success was his downfall.
Rex's frustrations didn't stop there. As champion, he found himself on a losing streak in the ring. Because the roster was so young and unproven, the people who stepped up to face him were put in non-title matches, prolonging his reign as NRWL Champion despite losing matches. The losing streak continued until he was finally put in a title match against Slam Jackson. By this point, Rex had grown so frustrated with his position that he threatened to take the title hostage and refuse to defend it again if he won. Luckily for the NRWL, Slam Jackson defeated him and became the new NRWL Champion.

Rex Anarchy was finally free of the championship that was holding him down but after so many loses and falling flat with the audience, it was obvious that it would take a strong showing to keep him on the roster. Shortly after losing the title, Rex was chosen as a member of Johnny Young's team for the Team Color Tournament. It was a good opportunity to make the comeback he so badly needed. Unfortunately for Rex, he was unable to make the kind of appearance that he needed to show he was still a major player. His one victory for the night against Meinrad von Brakkus in a double elimination match came after a loss earlier in the evening. In the second round, he was defeated again.

A week later, the NRWL decided to cut its ties with Rex Anarchy, a decision that was not easy for either side. There would be no comeback, not even a demotion to the NRWL's minor league system. Rex probably wouldn't want that anyway. He is free now and can start over with a clean slate.

Being NRWL Champion is undoubtably an honor and a high point for any wrestler's career. Rex Anarchy can be proud of being a champion. Unfortunately, his early achievement was also his only high point. Rex's days in a wrestling ring are far from over but it is likely you won't see him in the NRWL again any time soon. Sometimes being successful has fatal consequences.

Settling The Score

*Jay Phillips is backstage with Mark Blood.*

Jay Phillips: Mark Blood, as of late you have been quite angry at many of your fellow wrestlers in the locker room. You recently attacked NRWL Champion Slam Jackson for seemingly no reason. I think we'd all like to know what you are thinking.

Mark Blood: Jay, if you can't tell what I'm thinking then maybe you are part of the problem. There's some great wrestlers here but when I go out to the ring and listen to the fans and look at the signs they hold up, they are cheering for the wrong people. They aren't concerned with the actual talent in the ring, they are delirious over guys like Slam Jackson who spends most of his time partying it up. You have Ash who goes out to the ring with the clothes he would wear to a rock concert. He doesn't look he like belongs in the ring at all. Scotty Paris just jabs away on his cell phone every time you see him. The only success he has had is thanks to his agent getting involved. And Johnny Young? The guy has been focused on beating people up in catering areas and now he has a title shot! You see what I'm getting at? The NRWL and the fans are catering to the wrong kind of people. Where is the respect for the hard workers who go out there and use their in ring skills to show off what they've got? There's a handful of us still around. There's no reason for all these gimmicks! It sickens me!

JP: Are you blaming the fans for rewarding these "gimmick" wrestlers, as you say?

MB: The fans are just supporting this behavior because they are trained to be that way. I'm not against the fans. I'm here to help them! You just watch, Jay. I will educate them. I will make them understand what wrestling is really about and they will thank me. It's my mission. Unfortunately, there is one thing I need to take care of first.

JP: Oh? What would that be?

MB: Bruno Kowalski. You know, a few weeks back, I asked him to meet me in the ring for match. I asked him because he was one of the guys I really respected around here. He comes into the ring and does his thing. No flashy persona, no long diatribes on the microphone just to get people to react. He goes to the ring and gets things done. Like me. Well what does he do? He humiliates me with a showy pin. I can't believe him. The nerve! I can't take that disrespect. Bruno, we're going to meet in the ring again. It's a shame too because I thought you were one of the good guys.

*Mark Blood walks away leaving Jay on his own.*

JP: Well, there you have it. Mark Blood wants Bruno Kowalski in a rematch! Will he accept? I am sure we will find out soon enough.

Building A Legacy

*Jay Phillips is in the ring with "Hardcore" Johnny Young. Johnny is wearing his black cargo pants and red shirt from the colors tournament that his team won. He looks around the arena as the fans give mixed reactions, though mostly negative.*

Jay Phillips: Johnny Young, last week your team went on to victory to give you a shot at the NRWL Championship currently held by Slam Jackson at the next event.

*The crowd erupts into cheers at the mention of Slam Jackson's name.*

JP: Johnny, what are your thoughts on how the tournament went down?

*Johnny Young looks around at the audience a little longer and nods his head a bit after some contemplation. He looks at Jay and takes the microphone from his hand in a casual manner.*

Johnny Young: You know, there's a lot to be said about that tournament but I'm going to break it down to simply this. I, Johnny Young, put together a team that I said would win that tournament and that's exactly what we did. Not only did we win but we won in a big way and it was me that turned the tides of that whole tournament! Now I'm going into the next event with a chance to once again hold NRWL gold.

*Jay cautiously gets up to the microphone in Johnny's hand.*

JP: Do you have anything you'd like to say to your fellow teammates from the Red Team?

JY: There is nothing to say to them. I assembled them because I wanted nothing more than to win that tournament. I knew they'd get the job done that's why I picked them! No, I have nothing to say to them. Once that tournament ended, it was time to get down to business and that business is taking down Slam Jackson.

*As Jay is about to get to the microphone to ask another question, Johnny turns around and starts to speak again, leaving Jay completely out of the conversation.*

JY: You see, I've been in the NRWL a long time. I was here in the beginning and I'm here now. I had early success, but you know what, it's not enough. It really isn't. You know, there's a lot of guys out there who used to wrestle for the NRWL that you could call legends. John Fraust, WarHead, Cujo, Hardcore Adam, The Druid, Dave Smith, Flawless Fred, and I could go on. So I've been thinking a lot about them lately. I've worked hard here in the NRWL. I made it my mission to do what no previous NRWL star could. I got myself into this fourth season. The great reboot of the company. I'm here and I intend to make that count. I am here to build a legacy. Whenever that day comes where I can't get in this ring and perform anymore, I want to make sure I'm remembered. Mark my words, I will go down as the greatest NRWL wrestler who ever competed. Period. I ---

*Marty Anderson's music hits and interrupts Johnny Young. Johnny puts the microphone down to his side and tightens his lips as he looks down the ramp. The crowd cheers as Marty Anderson and Slugger Malone walk down together. They get in the ring and Marty Anderson is handed a microphone.*

Marty Anderson: Sorry to break up the little victory speech you have going on here but we need to settle something first. Before you go off on your quest for the gold, we have a bit of an issue with the way you handled your team, specifically Slugger here. You could have put any two guys against each other you wanted in that second round match. Yet, out of all the guys you could have put against me, you pick my own teammate? My best friend? I don't know what you were trying to prove but we went out there and we battled it out. I'm proud to say that we gave it our all. Friends or not, we know what it means to get down to business. So what exactly was your game plan?

*Johnny looks at Slugger with a confused glance. Slugger takes the microphone from Marty.*

Slugger Malone: Johnny, it's not just Marty who wants answers. These fans want answers, too. And, well... I guess now's as good a time as any to give them.

*Suddenly, Slugger turns and clotheslines Marty Anderson. He gets down on his knees and starts punching Marty repeatedly in the face. Slugger pulls Marty up by the hair and then delivers a DDT. He grabs Marty's arm and lifts him enough to expose his chest and stomach and then motions to Johnny Young to take a shot. Johnny looks at both men and after a few moments shakes his head. He drops the microphone and walks out of the ring. Slugger shrugs and picks up Marty to his feet. He proceeds to give Marty "The Beating" and then picks up a microphone laying in the ring. The crowd is booing loudly as Marty Anderson lay motionless on the ring canvas.*

SM: You wanted answers, Marty. All of these fans do too. You want to know why we got put in that match together? Because I requested it! I went to Johnny Young and I begged him to put me in the ring against you. I did it because I'm tired of hearing over and over that you're the teacher and I'm the student. I'm tired of everyone looking at me like some tag along riding on your shoulders! I'm better than you, Marty, and I don't need you. Johnny just talked about how he wants to carve out a legacy for himself. Well that's just great. To do that, you need opportunities. As long as I'm around you, you're the one that would get those opportunities. I am just looked at as the guy who plays the part of your shadow. No more. It's time to set the record straight. So long, Marty.

*Slugger tosses the mic on Marty's motionless body and walks out of the ring.*

True Colors

*scene opens in the interview area backstage in front of the Red vs. Blue Tournament backdrop*

Jay Phillips: Hey everyone, Jay Phillips here! It’s the eve or the Red vs Blue Tournament, and I’m here with Bruno Kowalski. Bruno, we’re less than 24 hours away, can you tell us what’s going through your mind?

Bruno: Well Jay, obviously, tomorrow’s tournament should be on everyone in the company’s mind. I have a feeling that we’re all in for a lot of surprises. I think a lot of people are going to show their true colors…..so to speak.

JP: Are you referring to someone specifically?

BK: Yes, but we’ll see what happens.

JP: So, what are your plans if you win the tournament?

BK: Not “if” Jay, but “when.” When I win the tournament, I certainly expect the #2 contender spot for the title, just like everyone else. You heard it at the draft – many wrestlers want their captains to remember who got them their title shot.

JP: What are your thoughts on being on Ash’s team?

BK: Well, it must be said that no matter who’s team I was on, I would go out there and still leave it all in the ring. But having said that, I’m pleased to be on Ash’s team, although I think sometimes he doesn’t take things seriously enough and eveything’s a joke. But Johnny Young, he’s out of his element on this one because he is NOT a team player. He’s in it for himself and only himself. It certainly wouldn’t surprise me to see some of his team members sand-bagging it because Johnny has made it known that it’s all about him. But like I said, we’ll see people for who they truly are tomorrow.

JP: Thank you for your time Bruno, good luck in your match or matches tomorrow. Red vs. Blue Tournament TOMORROW NIGHT! DON’T MISS IT!

09/13/11 Minor League Event Results

Fans may or may not know that the NRWL has a minor league system that is used to train and shape future stars. It is a new system that started with our current season. We have decided to put more emphasis on bringing you news about the minor league system so you get to watch the wrestlers evolve before hitting the main stage.

We will provide match results for minor league events and give you notes on the performance of these up and coming athletes. To start things off, here are the results of the most recent event.

Singles Match

Jeff Farson vs. Machine Head

Winner: Jeff Farson in 6:21

Match Notes:

Farson's uses his strength advantage effectively. His movement in the ring is a bit sluggish. Despite his size, he can deliver big hits from the top rope. While he can maintain control during a match, his momentum is quickly broken. Farson's charisma in the ring is good. He has a basic foundation to be a popular character during events.

Machine Head is very unpredictable in the ring, a good trait to have against his opponents. While he was not in control throughout much of the match, he showed that he has the skills to keep things flowing and mount an offense. He is a more balanced wrestler than Farson is, quick on his feet while still able to perform big slams. Machine Head's charisma is low. He doesn't generate much in the way of crowd reaction.

Singles Match

Caribou Crawford vs. Grave

Winner: Caribou Crawford in 5:08

Match Notes:

Crawford doesn't have much of a size advantage but still manages to show off his strength. He also has a mind of submissions. Crawford has a tendency to try for a headbutt often with mixed success. Crawford doesn't rely too heavily on strikes but uses them just enough to get in position for a big slam. Charisma is high. The fans really give a strong reaction for him during his entrance, during the match, and in his victory celebration.

Grave is a bigger wrestler but has a surprising amount of speed. He has trouble maintaing control of the match. When he goes get an upper hand, he has trouble holding onto it. His moves are exciting and his counters seem to come when you would least suspect it. Despite arial moves, he does seem a bit slower than he needs to be. His gimmick is very serious and could be troublesome getting over with fans.

Four Way Elimination Match

Tom Shire vs. Don Suave vs. Hiro Nishimoto vs. John Austin Baker

Tom Shire has some words before the match

Tom Shire: You know, as I look at my opponents tonight, I realize that I need to show them what it is like to be in a wrestling ring. I should be in the NRWL right now, and mark my words, soon I will be. Tonight is just another chance for me to prove it!

Winner: Don Suave in 9:29

Match Notes:

Tom Shire is a well balanced performer. He shows off a lot of wrestling counter and holds. Out of all the performers in this match, he was middle of the road. His moves were slower than his opponents but he managed to control an opponent with ease. Unfortunately, he didn't seem to really be noticed in the ring compared to Suave or Nishimoto who have more natural charisma. Will need to work on becoming more interesting to watch in the ring.

Don Suave is quick in the ring. He works well with other wrestlers for double team moves. He takes opportunities when he sees them. He was slow to start but began to warm up as the match went on. Kicks out of pins much easier than many opponents. Took advantage of the no DQ rule and used a sledgehammer to his advantage to win the match. Good reaction from the fans after winning the match, however, his entrance could use a boost given his stronger personality. With a little more experience and a clear definition of his character, he can make a good addition to the NRWL.

Hiro Nishimoto is incredibly exciting in the ring. He is fast, agile, and seems to be very popular with fans. He appears unaffected by the chaos in the ring with three other wrestlers. His control of opponents is very clear. Going by in ring performance alone, he can be in the NRWL today, however, his skills on the microphone have yet to be seen.

John Austin Baker hits hard and has a solid set of moves in the ring. Found himself eliminated quickly in the match. His control of the match was very minimal. His entrance in the ring was very strong. With more experience in the ring, he looks like he could be a good fit to the NRWL roster.

NRWL Team Color Tournament Draft

*Jay Phillips, in a sharp, black tuxedo, is standing behind a podium with the NRWL logo on the front of it, and a big Red vs. Blue Team Tournament backdrop behind him*

Jay Phillips:  Welcome everyone, to the official NRWL Red vs Blue Tournament Team Draft!  I'm Jay Phillips, and I will be hosting and overseeing the picking of the teams!  The Red vs. Blue Tournament will take place at the next event, and promises to be an exciting and interesting arrangement of matches and strategy!  First off, I want to introduce the captains.  First, Captaining the Red Team.... HARDCORE JOHNNY YOUNG!!!

*Johnny Young walks out wearing his cargo pants and a red t-shirt. He walks up to the podium and removes his sunglasses.*

Johnny Young: Thank you, Jay. Nice tux. You actually look presentable for once. So this colors tournament is going to be something special because I am able to make some major decisions. If we left it up to Ash, it would be a joke. I am going to assemble the greatest talent the NRWL has ever seen. That's why you won't see losers like Storm Harrison or Mark Blood on my team. I'm going for the cream of the crop. Ash can deal with the rest of them.

JP:  Erm....right.  And next, Captaining the Blue Team....ASH!!!

*Ash comes out wearing jeans, blue Chucks, a tuxedo-patterned t-shirt and wearing a blue necktie*

Ash:  Johnny, you’d better watch your mouth and watch your sense of fashion.  Green cargo pants and a red shirt?  Seriously?  But that doesn’t matter does it?  What does matter, is that me and the talent that I pick are going to walk all over you, because you may be a “star player”, but not a “team player” like me!

*Johnny sneers at Ash and shakes his head.*

JP:  Thank you Johnny and Ash.  I'd like to remind everyone that the there are stakes in this tournament - the winning team's captain will be awarded a title shot!  Now gentlemen, you know the rules.  We'll have a coin toss, and the winner of the toss gets to either pick first, or pick the first match.  *reaches under podium*  Here is an official NRWL coin.  One side is red, the other is blue.  Whichever color lands face up, wins the toss. *Jay tosses the coin*

JP:  It is Red!  Johnny, you get to either pick the first wrestler or first match.

JY: Aww yeah! Well Jay, as good as both options sound, I am going to go with picking the first wrestler. Not that I think Ash has the brains to pick anyone good but it is good to protect one's self.

Ash:  Go ahead.  Pick your guy who is going to lose to my team mate.

JY: Haha! If only that were possible. My first pick is easy. I choose Apollyon!!!

*Nick Belhor walks out from backstage with Apollyon.  Nick gets behind the podium*

Nick:  This is no surprise that one of the Sons of Darkness goes first.  But having Apollyon on your team does not come without a price, Mr. Young.  When Apollyon wins the tournament for you, not only will he challenge for the belt, whoever may have it, but also he will have YOU in his sights.  Ha ha ha!

*Nick and Apollyon leave the stage*

JP:  Ash, you're up next.

Ash:  Way to pick someone who's looking to kick the crap out of you already, Johnny.  So you might've gotten a gorilla, but I'm picking someone who not only has the strength, but also the mat skills, quick reflexes, and natural talent for this sport.  So whether you love my pick, or hate it, you have to respect it, and you have to respect.....MARTY ANDERSON!!!

*Marty Anderson walks out from backstage and looks at both team captains with a stone face. He walks over to Ash, pats him on the shoulder and smiles, and approaches the podium.*

Marty Anderson: You know Ash wants to win this because he gets down to business immediately. When you want your team to win, you plan accordingly. You put someone in the ring who can reliably get the job done. That's why you picked me, Ash. I get things done with no nonsense, all skill. Johnny, you're going to respect this team!

JP:  Johnny, it's your pick.

JY: Marty, you think pretty highly of yourself. I'll tell you what. My next pick might sting a little. My next pick is Slugger Malone. Deal with that!

*Slugger Malone walks out from backstage and immediately walks up to Marty. They converse with each other for a moment and then Slugger nods. He walks up to the podium.*

Slugger Malone: Johnny, you made a good choice. Once the bell rings, someone is getting their bell rung! It doesn't matter who it is. Ash, someone else, or even Marty, we're on the same page here. We're both here to do a job. Nothing will get in my way.

JP:  Ash, back over to you.

Ash:  Well, as long as we're splitting up teams, why not break apart the Sons of Darkness?  I pick Abbadon!

*Nick Belhor walks back onstage looking very angry.  Abbadon follows behind him.  Ash approaches Abbadon and holds up his hand for a high-five, but Abbadon walks right by.  Ash smiles and shrugs his shoulders*

Nick:  Let me make one thing perfectly clear.  The Sons of Darkness will not engage each other.  I see through the NRWL's latest attempt to break apart the strongest force in the NRWL.  Ash and Mr. Young, condiser yourself warned - if either of you attempt to create a match between Apollyon and Abbadon, the match will be forfeit, and you will have both Sons of Darkness hunting you.  That is all.

*Nick and Abbadon walk backstage*

JP:  Uhrm.....ok then.  Johnny!  Your pick!

JY: Well geez... Alright. Well, my next pick has been making waves ever since he started here in the NRWL. In fact, Ash, he just Abbadon a few weeks ago. My next pick is Mikey Armstrong!

*Mikey Armstrong walks out from backstage strutting the whole way. He walks up to the podium and stands proudly.*

Mikey Armstrong: Well, it's good to know someone realizes the immense talent of yours truly! My only problem? Why wasn't I picked first for this thing? Obviously I'm the best choice for this thing. I am a phenom!!!

JP:  Right.  Ok, Ash, over to you!

Ash:  My next pick is a man who came in with little hype but turned a lot of heads almost immediately.  I pick "The Polish Powerhouse" Bruno Kowalski!!!

*Bruno comes out and walks over and shakes Ash's hand. He approaches the podium*

Bruno:  I don't have much to say and I'm not good at making speeches, so I'll just keep it short.  Put me in whatever match, and I'll win.  And Ash, when you get that title shot and if you overthrow Slamnation *random people in the auditorium hoot and cheer* Just remember who helped you get there.

JP:  Back over to you, Johnny.

JY: Well, my next pick is someone who caught my attention from the start. He's sure to be an asset to me a loss to you, Ash. Scotty Paris, you are my next pick!

*Scotty comes out with Trixie on his one arm, and his cellphone up to his ear on the other*
Right....well of course I know that! .......Well you just tell him I said so.  No!  I'm-......I'm at the tournament schoolyard pick thing.  ..........the Red team I guess ........Johnny Young, I think--I think he's the Red team guy......... Well, at least I'm not on that charity-case Ash's team.  If I'm going to help anyone win a title shot that belongs to me, I at least want to be someone that baths regularly. .......... I know........  I understand that...... *Scotty and Trixie walk away from the podium while Scotty still talks on the phone*

JP:  Ash, your turn.

Ash:  Ha ha Johnny.  Scotty doesn't even care!  You're batting a thousand!  My next pick started off slow, but once he found his footing, he's been practically unstoppable!  Mark Blood, come on down!!!!  I always wanted to say that!

*Mark Blood walks out from backstage, looking annoyed. He walks up to Johnny Young and both men stare at each other, looking as if they will come to blows. Mark walks away and walks over to Ash. Mark looks Ash up and down and stares him in the eye for a moment. He nods and walks over to the podium.*

Mark Blood: Well, it's the lesser of two evils, I suppose. You know what, this whole thing could have been great but Johnny Young is a disgrace to wrestling. He shouldn't even be involved, let alone a captain!  Hardcore? Hah! And Ash? He's not a wrestler. He's a lost member of Nirvana! No matter what happens in this thing, rest assured, I will take either one of you down for the NRWL Championship. That is, if you get past Slam Jackson.

Ash:  I like Nirvana.

JP:  Johnny, over to you!

JY: Geez Ash, you just threw away a spot. Mark Blood is a loser. But I will tell you who isn't a loser. My pick is someone who is tough as nails and has stayed under the radar so far. But that is about to change because Ingoyama is on a winning team! He's my next pick!

*A crew member from backstage walks out and hands Johnny Young a piece of bark.  The inside is painted totally red*

JY: Umm... Glad to hear it! I think?

JP: Ash, your turn!

Ash:  Not only is my team better looking, more skilled, and owners of the mat, but we're about to rule the sky too, because my pick is high-flying Pedro Muchacho!!!

*Pedro comes out to the podium in a tuxedo and his luchador mask*

Pedro:  Theese ees my toornameent to ween, Ash.  Not chores!  Wheen I ween it, chu may get thee title shot, but theen I get next crack at thee gold, hombre!  Eets time for Pedro to chine!  *Pedro walks offstage*

JP: Johnny, your final pick!

JY: My final pick is one that may not be very popular. He hasn't made many friends around here and he tried to destroy this company that I love, but it doesn't matter. The last tournament he was in, he destroyed everybody. My final pick is Rex Anarchy!

*Rex Anarchy walks out from backstage and wastes no time approaching the podium.*

Rex Anarchy: Well, I have to admit that I didn't expect this at all. Johnny, you're pretty crazy to go with public enemy number one. Regardless, I will win this tournament but what happens after that is on your head!

JP: Well Ash, it all comes down to this. The final pick. Who will you choose?

Ash:  Well, I'm going to go out on a limb here and pick a relative newcomer!  Doomsday!  Come join Blue and show me what you got!

*Doomsday come out and walks up to the podium.  He pauses, looks left and looks right, and then speaks deliberatly into the microphone*

Doomsday:  Watch.

*Doomsday turns and exits the stage*

JY: What just happened?

Ash:  He was talking about the lights on the ceiling, cause that's what you'll be looking at when you're flat on your back getting pinned!

JP:  Well, that concludes the draft.  The teams are set!  Now Ash will have the choice of the first match's participants, which he will reveal when the tournament starts!  Before we close this out, if the 16th "rogue" wrestler would like to address the Captains, he may do so now.

*Meinrad von Brakkus comes out from backstage and walks up to the podium*

*Johnny Young smirks*

Meinrad:  Well, I suppose I shouldn't be surprise to be in this position.  But make no mistake, I'm not just rolling over and bowing out!  I'm not here to only be the spoiler.  I'm here to win the whole tournament!  And when I do, I'll be talked about by each captain in how the regretted not picking me!

*Meinrad leaves the stage*

JP:  And there you have it folks, the teams are sorted and captains are ready!  Johnny, Ash, good luck to both of you and your respective teams!  Red vs. Blue Team Tournament at the next event!  Don't miss it!!!

Update On Storm Harrison

Recently, NRWL wrestler Storm Harrison was attacked backstage by Hardcore Johnny Young. During the attack, Storm was thrown down a flight of stairs and was injured in the fall. We wanted to bring the fans an update on Storm Harrison's condition.

Storm suffered two broken ribs, a broken leg, and ligament tears in his knee. The good news is that none of these injuries will be career threatening and Storm will be making his return to the ring in time, although that time has not yet been determined. Storm had the following to say to the NRWL fans.

I'd like to thank you, the fans, for their support while I recuperate. Being unable to get in the ring is very frustrating for me as I love performing for all of you. When I return, I promise to make an immediate impact. There is a storm once again on the horizon!

We wish Storm Harrison the best in his recuperation and look forward to his return in the NRWL ring.

The Tournament

*Hardcore Johnny Young is looking at an NRWL poster with his image front and center. It shows him with a championship belt over his shoulder. The poster is from NRWL's first season. Jay Phillips comes up behind Johnny.*

Jay Phillips: Hello Johnny Young! Could I have a word with you?

*Johnny jumps and turns around, startled.*

Johnny Young: Geez, Phillips! Do you really have to sneak up on people like that? What do you want?

JP: I'm sorry. You seem to have been preoccupied with this poster here.

JY: Yes. Do you see this, Phillips? This poster was from an event back when I was champion here. Not so long ago but long ago at the same time. This was early in my career. But now, it's a different time. Aww yeah! I'm in my prime now and that means that championship gold is mine for the taking. There's a tournament coming up very soon. A team based tournament. I, Hardcore Johnny Young, am one of the team captains. Only one man will be the winner of this tournament and I intend to be that man. Why? Because the winner becomes number one contender. I can feel it, Phillips! It is my time! It's why I came back to the NRWL. Destiny!

*Johnny turns back around and stares at the poster. He motions his hands around his waist as if securing a championship belt and nods in approval.*

Hot Blooded

*Jay Phillips is backstage with Mark Blood, who recently attacked NRWL Champion Slam Jackson during a celebration. Mark Blood is sweating with a towel over his head. He has just come from the gym.*

Jay Phillips: Mark Blood, the NRWL fans have been abuzz over your recent attack on Slam Jackson. You two were friends. What were you thinking?

*Mark Blood raises an eyebrow and shakes his head.*

Mark Blood: What was I thinking? Were you even listening? You were there. I told everyone what I was thinking when I did it. The NRWL has had some talented guys come and go over the years, just like any company. The problem is that there's a lot of guys like Slam Jackson out there who spend more effort into their goofy, out of ring antics, than the ring work itself. For whatever reason, they get praised for it! Frankly, it disgusts me.

JP: But there's room for both. NRWL realizes true ring talent. People like some of that interaction outside of the ring as well. NRWL does a good job of making a well rounded product, I think.

MB: That's the other problem. The fans are programmed to eat that stuff up. It's a joke. My goal is to give the fans a real sportsman to look up to. I'm going to make this a respectable sport once again!

JP: So this attack was to challenge Slam for the title to somehow, what, purify it?

MB: Eventually. I made an attack on the biggest offender out there to make a point. There's a lot of people who need to be cleaned out and I want all of them to know I'm coming. Yes, I will win the NRWL Championship and give it the respect it deserves but my mission is bigger than that. I'm here to make a real difference!

JP: Can we speak about someone who you had a recent run in with? Bruno Kowalski beat you in your last match and he did it showing off. Was that in response to your challenge to him?

MB: Bruno Kowalski was one of the few people in the NRWL I really respected. I did nothing but offer him a good match and show him a few things in the ring. How does he repay me? He steps on my chest and flexes while he pins me! What an insult! I never would have done that to him. I have my goals but before I get to them, believe me, I'll make sure he gets what is coming to him.

JP: Strong words from Mark Blood. How will Bruno Kowalski, Slam Jackson, and the rest of the NRWL respond? I'm sure we'll find out soon!

Surprise!

*Ash is waling through arena back hallways with a card and pen. He turns the corner and bumps into Rex Anarchy*

Rex: Watch it, punk!

Ash: Oh! Hi Rex! I didn’t see you walking there!

Rex: I know! Now get out of my way!

Ash: Wait! Check it out, Rex! *shows Rex the card* It’s got a chimp on it!

Rex: *reading front of card outloud* “It’s your birthday…”

*Ash opens card*

Rex: *reading inside of card* “Go bananas. Happy birthday.” …..That’s stupid!

Ash: It’s Mr. Charles’s birthday today! So I got him a birthday card and I’m having all the wrestlers sign it!

Rex: What?

Ash: Yeah, here look. There’s a space right after the “Happy birthday” so he’ll see your name first probably!

Rex: And everyone else signed this? Yeah right…

Ash: Well…no. Just Slam Jackson right now. But I’m sure most of them will get back to me. So there's plenty of real estate open if case you wanted to write a longer birthday wish.

Rex: *Turns and stares right into Ash’s face* You….are what’s wrong with wrestling these days.

Ash: You know, you keep that attitude up, and I’m not gong to pick you on my team for this upcoming tournament, mister.

*Rex scowls in disgust and walks away*

Ash: *calls after Rex* Don't worry! I know you’re busy! I’ll just sign your name for you! *opens card and begins writing* “To the best boss ever, hope your birthday ‘Rex’ havoc! Yours, R. Anarchy.”

*Ash smiles as the scene fades out*

The New Champion Celebrates

*Slam Jackson is backstage with Jay Phillips. He stands proud with the NRWL Championship around his waist.*

Jay Phillips: Slam Jackson! The NEW NRWL Champion. This must be an incredible feeling. How do you feel about becoming the top man in the company?

Slam Jackson: How do I feel? Me? I feel great! But more importantly, how does the Slamnation feel about becoming the NRWL Champions? Let me hear you!!!

*People from down the hall start cheering wildly, some random backstage employee steps into the camera eye and starts cheering, giving a fist pump in the air. Video cuts to various crowds of people from celebrations around the world, including the celebration of the Berlin Wall falling, New Years at Times Square, President Obama's Presidential victory speech from the 2008 election, and NRWL audiences.*

SJ: Simply incredible, isn't it Jason? All those people celebrating this incredible achievement.

JP: Yes. Yes, it is. Although, I'm pretty sure most of that footage was completely unrelated to your victory, or the NRWL in general. Regardless, the fans are very excited to celebrate your victory. Just prior to your match with Rex Anarchy, he threatened to take the NRWL Championship hostage, effectively removing it from the NRWL completely. So much history was at stake. So many legacies are defined by that belt you are wearing right now. Despite that amount of pressure to get the job done, you succeeded. What are your thoughts of the match itself and your opponent Rex Anarchy.

SJ: Jason, let's be clear. It's not my victory. The Slamnation won this belt! Let me hear you again!

*People begin cheering again from backstage. Streamers and confetti start falling from the ceiling. Jay looks up, confused. He mouths silently, 'When did that get set up,' and looks back at Slam.*

SJ: To answer your question, yes, the stakes were high, the pressure was on. Slam Jackson needed to be the victor or all was lost. Despite that, I knew that it was Rex Anarchy against an entire army. With the Slamnation behind me, I knew I had all the support I needed to get the job done. Rex Anarchy is a tough dude but in the end I beat him and saved the title from, what, the dumpster? Who knows! Now, about Rex... I'm not sure we'll be seeing him again any time soon. The NRWL can't be too happy about his antics. If he does come back though, he's welcome to try again. The Slamnation will stop you in your tracks! Isn't that right?!?

*Once again, people start cheering. Suddenly, Mark Blood steps into the interview with a smile on his face, a bottle of champaign and a Slam Jackson T-Shirt on.*

JP: Fans, it's Mark Blood! Mark, what are you doing here?

Mark Blood: Isn't it obvious, Jay? Slam Jackson is the new NRWL Champion. What a great moment in history this is. With all this celebrating, how could I not join my friend in the excitement. Congratulations, Slam. You are the new face of the NRWL.

SJ: Well thank you, Mark. You know, we go back a little ways, you and I kicked this whole season off with the first match in the tournament. It means a lot. Come here, brother.

*Both men embrace in a hug. Mark pats Slam on the back and they pull away.

MB: Well, lets really christen this championship victory. I have a bottle of bubbly here. I'd say it's time to crack it open and let the real celebrating begin!

SJ: You know I'm always good for a little partying! Let's do it.

*Mark Blood smiles and shakes his head, laughing to himself. As he goes to pull the cork, he suddenly flips the bottle in his hand and smashes it across Slam's head. Slam tumbles to the floor, bleeding. Mark starts kicking Slam viciously.

JP: Oh my god! Mark Blood! What has gotten into you?! Stop it!

*Mark Blood takes off his Slam T-Shirt and throws it on Slam. He turns to Jay, grabs the microphone from his hand, and shoves him off screen.*

MB: So here's the thing. We have a champion who is just a goofball throwing parties everywhere he goes. He doesn't present himself much like an athlete. For whatever reason, the fans eat this crap up. The NRWL is full of clowns like this guy. You've got guys who dress like they come off the street just looking for some money to buy a sandwich or a bottle of liquor. It's not just lately. It's been that way for years and the fans go on cheering for it because they don't know any better. Well, fans, it's time you get educated! I'll show you who you need to pay attention to. It's time to respect the guys with talent in the ring and not put up with these pre-packaged morons who get shoved in your face because their 'gimmicks' make them seem cool. You know why wrestling isn't 'cool' anymore? Why you people out there are too ashamed to wear the t-shirts in public? Why the sport isn't talked about in pop culture like it used to be? Because it's become a joke. People watch MMA now because the in-ring action is actually interesting! Cheering for a guy who can't pull off a suplex but can talk your ear off in the ring just doesn't make much sense. It worked years ago but it doesn't work now. I am going to change all that and make sure Slam Jackson is the last of the 'gimmick champions'. You will thank me when I'm done cleaning up this place.

*Mark Blood tosses the microphone off camera and looks down at Slam again. He nudges Slam's body with his foot and shakes his head with a disgusted look on his face and then walks off camera. Slam Jackson, NRWL Champion, is left unconscious on floor.
